The South Brunswick Senior Center has announced its weekend hours during August will be Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Social dancing instruction will be given each Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The center will offer trips to local seniors, beginning with a trip to Quakerbridge Mall Aug. 3. A trip to Target, Wegmans and Kohl’s will be Aug. 17, North Brunswick Village Aug. 24, and Hometown Buffet and farm market Aug. 31. All trips depart the senior center at 10:30 a.m.
The lecture “Travelogue Pittsburgh” will be Aug. 4 at 12:30 p.m. Photographer Henry Rand will present an informative view of Pittsburgh. A Chinese movie will be shown Aug. 6 at 9:15 a.m., and the movie “In Good Company” Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. The lecture, “Long Term Care Planning” will be Aug. 11 at 12:30 p.m. “Mary Kay Makeup Day” will be Aug. 18 at 12:30 p.m. A seminar on independent living will be Aug. 24 at 12:30 p.m. A door prize will be awarded.
The center will hold duplicate bridge tournaments the fourth Wednesday of each month, with the next games Aug. 24 and Sept. 28. Tournaments are free for residents and $5 for nonresidents (space permitting).
The South Brunswick Senior Club will offer a trip to Trump Marina, Atlantic City, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. Cost is $20, and there will be a casino rebate. A seven-day, six-night trip to San Diego and Palm Springs, Calif., and Las Vegas, will begin Sept. 16. Cost is $1,180 per person, and covers airfare, hotels and transfers. Several tours such as the Golden Nugget Casino, and Balboa Park will be available. Trips depart Woodlot Park, New Road, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. New sessions of bridge classes will be offered this fall, beginning with a beginner class Tuesdays Sept. 6-Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. An intermediate class will be Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. for eight weeks Sept. 6-Oct. 25. Fee is $16 for South Brunswick seniors. An intermediate review lesson will be Tuesdays 9-10 a.m. Sept. 6-Oct 25, or Thursdays at 1 p.m. Sept. 1-Oct. 20. Resident fee is $16. A five-week workshop, “Paint Like the Impressionists,” will begin Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Students must supply materials, and canvas can be purchased by instructor. Cost is $10.

No. Brunswick church Bible school begins Aug. 7
Georges Road Baptist Church and North Brunswick Reformed Church will hold a joint vacation Bible school, “Kingdom of the Son — A Prayer Safari” Aug. 7-11 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Volunteers sought for AHA heart walk
The American Heart Association (AHA) is seeking volunteers for its heart walk, “Walk. Change Tomorrow. Today” scheduled for Oct. 2 at nine Middlesex County locations. Individuals are needed for set-up and take down, check-in and registration, food and water distribution and as photographers. Performers and entertainers are also needed, as are clowns and face painters.

Blood drive at North B’wick temple July 31
Congregation B’nai Tikvah, Finnegans Lane, North Brunswick, will sponsor a blood drive for the Blood Center of New Jersey July 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Donors age 17 and older are eligible. Donors must be in good general health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have a signature ID and know the donor’s Social Security number. The donation process takes approximately one hour.

The North Brunswick Police Department will take part in “National Night Out” Aug. 2 from 6-9 p.m. at the North Brunswick Government and Community Complex, 710 Hermann Road.
Activities at the free event include child photo ID kits, refreshments ad live entertainment. There will also be a blood drive from 3:30-7 p.m. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, and be age 18 or older.
South Brunswick’s ‘Night Out’ Aug. 2
South Brunswick Township will hold the 18th annual “National Night Out” celebration Aug. 2 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Woodlot Park, New Road, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick.
The free event will focus on neighbors and police joining to stand up against crime in the community. It will feature a military helicopter, fire trucks, rescue vehicles and police cars on display; face painting; rides; games; McGruff the Crime Dog; and free food, soda and ice cream.
