LONG BRANCH — The police department is recruiting volunteers for the new city Domestic Violence Response Team.

The volunteers will work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information and referrals at the time of crises, according to William Richards, public safety director.

The police department is working in conjunction with 180 Turning Lives Around, to create a culturally diverse team to better serve the community, according to Richards.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis and submit to background investigations and fingerprinting.

A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course, which will be held over a four-week period during evening and weekend hours, is required to be attended by all accepted applicants, Richards said.

The training course is scheduled to begin in the fall and no prior knowledge of domestic violence is required.
