Hollis Moore

Mr. Moore, 74, of Freehold, died Sept. 20 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Wellborn, Fla., and had lived in Manalapan before moving to Freehold in 1957. Mr. Moore owned and operated Hollis’ Barber Shop, Freehold, for 45 years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Moore is survived by six sons, Kenneth Moore, Forton Wimbush and Kevin Thomas, all of Freehold, Darryl Banks of Long Branch, Guy Kinsey of Shrewsbury and Steven Kinsey of Perth Amboy; four daughters, Deborah Moore-Whittaker, Joy-Lynn Kinsey and Grethel Kinsey, all of Freehold, and Carolyn Dozier of Atlanta; his mother, Grethel Moore of Wellborn, Fla.; five brothers and three sisters; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The viewing was held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold. Funeral services were be held at the church, followed by entombment at Frost Wood Memorial Park, East Brunswick. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia C. Beam Peters

Mrs. Peters, 86, of Toms River, died Sept. 17. Born in Red Bank, she resided in Eatontown for 55 years, prior to moving to Toms River in 2000. She was chief budget analyst at ERADCOM Technical Support Agency, Fort Monmouth, retiring in 1981. Prior to that, she raised her family, and was employed at Piccatinny Arsenal for 23 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Merrill D. Beam Sr.; her husband, Victor F. Peters; a daughter, Dr. Virginia L. Lieblein; a daughter-in-law, Frances M. Beam; and two brothers, Anthony Pace and Clement Pace. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Georganne M. and Peter Caruso of Toms River; a son, J. Wade Beam of Chicago, and the Navesink section of Middletown; a brother, Joseph Pace; and a granddaughter. A funeral service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church Red Bank. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. Anna “Emma” Mary Gentile

Mrs. Gentile, 86, of Neptune, died Sept. 27 at King Manor, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Ocean Township and Bayonne prior to moving to Neptune in 1999. She was employed at RCA, retiring after 25 years. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Gentile and Rae Bartolemeo; two brothers, Arthur and Sylvester Gentile; and a niece, Josephine Nappi. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Ferdinand and Pina Gentile of Rome, Italy; a sister-in-law, Martha Gentile; five nephews; two nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church, Wayside section of Ocean Township. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown.

Joseph F. “Spanky” Shannon Sr.

Mr. Shannon of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, died Sept. 23 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Philipsburg, Pa., he resided in Long Branch prior to moving to Oakhurst 18 years ago. He was a taxi owner employed at Paramount Inc., Long Branch. Prior to that, he was employed in the environmental industry, retiring at age 62. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by a daughter, Roberta Love in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Rhonda Shannon of Whitehouse Station, and Joseph Shannon Jr. of Papillion, Neb.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa and John Gill of Hilton Head, S.C., and Jennie Shannon of Oakhurst; a son-in-law, Ed Love of Asbury Park; a brother and sister-in-law, Al and Carol Shannon of Florida; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy Jean White of Morrisdale, Pa., Peggy Paul of Pennsylvania, Rosemary Sotok of Michigan, and Roberta and Vincent Stewart of Vienna, Va.; and six grandchildren.
