Police Beat for the week of Oct. 13

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP
   Police are searching for a man who allegedly drove off with $549 worth of diesel fuel from the Pilot truck stop on Route 206 on Oct. 3.
   According to police, a man drove into the stop around 6 p.m. and used a credit card to start the gas pump. After filling the tank with 177 gallons of diesel, police said, the credit card came up as invalid and the man drove off without offering another. Police said they have submitted the card’s information to MasterCard and are waiting further word from the company. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (609) 298-4300.

   Police are seeking information regarding a 1994 Jeep that was reported stolen from the parking lot of the Econo Lodge on Route 206 between Oct. 2 and 3.
   According to police, a woman staying at the motel woke on Oct. 3 to find her Jeep missing. Police said the vehicle is worth approximately $3,500. Anyone with information is asked to call (609) 298-4300.

   Police are investigating the theft of $2,000 worth of wood from a construction site on Sept. 30.
   According to police, 66 sheets of plywood and 120 2-by-4 boards were taken from the Grand at Crystal Lake development off Route 130. Police said the materials were taken from an unfinished home site. Anyone with information is asked to call (609) 298-4300.
FLORENCE
   Police charged a pair of Broad Street residents in connection with a contempt of court warrant Sunday morning.
   According to police, officers went to the home of Michelle Puorro, 28, to apprehend her on a series of outstanding warrants issued by North Hanover and Freehold Township, totaling $3,253.
   Police said Ms. Puorro ran out the back door and, after a brief foot chase through her yard, was charged with contempt of court and obstructing law enforcement officers. Police also charged 48-year-old John DiCarlo with hindering the apprehension of another for allegedly trying to assist Ms. Puorro’s getaway, the report stated.
   Ms. Puorro was turned over to the North Hanover Township Police Department; Mr. DiCarlo was released on his own recognizance, pending a court date.

   A township man was charged with several vehicular offenses after police say he hit a guardrail on Cedar Lane last weekend and then left the scene.
   According to police, officers spotted a silver Mitsubishi Lancer making a turn from Olive Street onto Cedar Lane on Oct. 8 near 3:20 a.m. and noticed severe damage to the taillight. Police stopped the slow-moving vehicle and found that the driver, 29-year-old Daniel Everett, had struck a guardrail on Cedar Lane moments before, the report stated.
   Police said their investigation concluded that Mr. Everett had been speeding at the time of the accident. Mr. Everett was charged with careless driving, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to present a valid vehicle registration. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court date.

   Police charged a township man with driving while intoxicated and related offenses after a cell phone call from a group of teenagers pointed officers toward Railroad Avenue last week.
   According to police, a group of teens called around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 to report an erratic driver who allegedly cut them off several times, stopped in the street, and then got into an argument with them. Police arrived during the argument and found 38-year-old Larry Roberson of Broad Street there. Police said officers smelled alcohol on Mr. Roberson’s breath. After failing sobriety tests, Mr. Roberson was charged with DWI, making an unsafe lane change and reckless driving. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.

   Police apprehended a 26-year-old Willingboro man who officers found passed out on a Maple Avenue lawn last week.
   According to police, officers patrolling Maple Avenue at 7:12 a.m. Oct. 7 found Alfred Lee McFadden unconscious on a lawn. Officers searched Mr. McFadden and found 30 small plastic bags and a butterfly knife in his pockets, thus charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Burlington County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

   Anthony Harris, 19, of West Second Street was charged with contempt of court and underage possession of alcohol after a brief foot chase through Roebling on Oct. 5.
   According to police, officers saw Mr. Harris standing on the corner of West Second and Foundry streets minutes before 7 p.m. and recognized him as being wanted on an outstanding $7,500 township warrant. A short chase ended with Mr. Harris’ apprehension, after which he was taken to the Burlington County Jail in lieu of bail, police said.

   A call about an erratic driver led police to charge a Burlington man with driving while intoxicated and careless driving at 1:30 a.m. Oct. 4.
   According to police, officers responding to the call found 34-year-old John Doyle driving erratically along River Road. Officers stopped Mr. Doyle on West Front Street, where they smelled alcohol on his breath, police said.
   After failing sobriety tests, police said, Mr. Doyle was charged and released to a relative. A court date is pending.
