LETTERS: Keep Cranbury pedestrian-friendly

To the editor:

Cranbury has been a very special place to live, picturesque scenery, a wonderful school, friendly people, charming homes, a quaint Main Street; what family could possibly need or ask for more?
On a summer day this August, our daughter, Meghan, was hit by a car while riding her bike to the Cranbury Swim Club. Our family asked for and received the help and support of many of our friends, neighbors, police and first aid staff. A precious gift was given to us that day and over the weeks that have followed. Meghan miraculously escaped any life-threatening or permanent injuries and our Cranbury friends and neighbors have held our family very close with prayers, visits, phone calls, e-mail, cards, gifts, meals, groceries and two weeks of solid entertainment for our younger daughter, Kimberly. Thank you so much for everything, each and every one of you. We are very grateful to be a part of this wonderful community.
Please join our family in encouraging the Township Committee to continue its endeavors to create a safer, pedestrian friendly environment throughout all areas of our special hometown. Local development continues to increase the motor vehicle traffic in and around our town. Rising fuel costs make the alternatives of foot and bike transportation a logical choice. Next year, the township’s Master Plan will be reviewed and prioritized by the township Planning Board, as you speak with the new candidates and committee members, please voice your concerns about pedestrian safety in your neighborhoods and on our roads.
Friends, please wear your helmets: skiing, skating, biking, boarding, it could save a life, maybe your own.
Louise, Bill,

Meg and Kim Palagyi
