EAST WINDSOR Shirlee L. Smith, 63, died Sunday after a long illness in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Steinert High School, class of 1960. Mrs. Smith loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed participating in arts and crafts, and loved animals, especially her dogs.
Daughter of the late Samuel and Velma Kerr Britton, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Charles Smith; a daughter, Andrea Latham; a son, Anthony Latham; two stepchildren, Todd and Tracie Smith; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Wood and Joyce and George Martin; a granddaughter, Gianna Maria Succi; a step-granddaughter, Hayley Smith; and many nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Colonial Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Helen B. Sapolnick
EAST WINDSOR Helen B. Sapolnick, 65, died Wednesday at St. Peter’s Medical Center, New Brunswick.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Sapolnick was a resident of East Windsor the past 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred Sapolnick; a son, Andrew Sapolnick; a daughter, Donna Rudnick; a sister, Rita Ovadia; and a grandson.
Funeral services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. today at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook. The period of mourning will be observed at the residence in East Windsor.
Funeral arrangements are by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing Township.
James D. Alexander
HIGHTSTOWN James D. Alexander, 90, died Saturday at Meadow Lakes.
Mr. Alexander was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y., and was a resident of Princeton, where he moved with his family in 1962. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester and had a lifelong interest in political science and international relations.
As a young man he was general manager of E.P. Reed Shoe Co. in Rochester. He became sales manager for Julian and Kokenge Co., headquartered in the Empire State Building in New York City, and sales manager for Barrett Leather Co. in Newark, N.J. He retired as vice president of sales and marketing for Flagg Leather Corp. in Milwaukee, Wis.
Mr. Alexander served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. In 1946, as a 1st lieutenant aboard the USS Arkansas, he participated in Operation Crossroads ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effects of an atomic bomb on naval vessels at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
He was a member of Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton and the retirement clubs, the Old Guard and Nassau Club.
Mr. Alexander’s favorite pastime was watching his six grandchildren participate in their many extracurricular activities. He was an avid skier into his 80s; enjoyed playing tennis and golf; and loved spending solitary time paddling and portaging canoes in the Canadian North Woods. He was an avid reader, debater and letter writer, and had a passion for ice cream and hard candy.
Mr. Alexander was the husband of the late Dorothy Alexander. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Alexander of Rochester; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Alexander and Ruth Ehinger of Pennington, and Lee Alexander and Cristina Guirao of Orihuela, Spain; a daughter, Susan Carty and her husband, Jim Carty of Belle Mead; and six grandchildren, Karen and Pablo Alexander, Emily and Julie Alexander, and Brett and Ryan Carty.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Pennington Presbyterian Church, 13 S. Main St., Pennington.

Terry Russel Weil
BORDENTOWN Terry R. Weil, 42, of Bordentown Township died Monday.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a resident of Hightstown and Bordentown Township. A 1981 graduate of Hightstown High School, he was a senior chemist for Film Specialties Inc. in Hillsborough.
Son of the late Stanley Weil, he is survived by his wife of 15 years, Susie Weil; his son, Joshua Weil; his mother, Carol Weil; three sisters and brothers-in-laws, Faith and Charlie Wight, Bonnie and Michael Coiro and Eileen and Harry Warner; his father and mother-in-law, John and Karen Philips; two sisters-in-laws Dawn Philips and Heidi Whitlach; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. today at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown. Dr. Stephen Heinzel-Nelson will officiate.
Interment will follow in Allentown Methodist Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
