The Rider men’s cross country team finished second at the Rider Invitational on Oct. 8. The race was held in a driving rain, and John Smith, of Matawan, who earned All-MAAC honors last year, was again the first across the line for the hosts, finishing second overall. He slogged his way through the muddy course in 27:03.10.
“This was the worst [conditions] I’ve ever raced in,” he said. “It was very sloppy, slippery footing.”
Freshman Matt Dahl, a star at Raritan High School, made his first impact with Rider finishing 12th (28:16.70). He was Rider’s No. 4 runner. Also competing for Rider is Red Bank Catholic grad Joseph Hafey, who is also a freshman.
The Rider women, who won the Rider Invitational, have a local feel as well. Freshman Kelly Wojciehowski, of Rumson, has been one of the Broncs’ top runners this fall.
