West Windsor and Plainsboro townships will benefit from $430,000 in state transportation grants for local projects.
Plainsboro will receive $230,000 for the third phase of a traffic-calming project along Plainsboro Road. The project will include removing and replacing existing curb and sidewalk between Deer Creek Drive and Enterprise Drive.
West Windsor will receive $200,000 for South Lane resurfacing.
The money is from the 2006 Transportation Trust Fund Municipal Aid Formula Program. The New Jersey Department of Transportation received 795 applications under the program and awarded 417 grants.
"This infusion of transportation aid will help relieve congestion, improve safety and help curb local property taxes," said Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro). "In these tough fiscal times when local governments are being asked to stretch taxpayer dollars, these state funds enable communities to pursue transportation improvements without burdening local property taxpayers."
