WEST WINDSOR The Environmental Commission will kick off a "Sustainable West Windsor" initiative at its meeting Thursday.
At the meeting, participants will develop a detailed work plan and project schedule, as well as prepare for a November outreach meeting. The meeting will bring together the Environmental Commission, township representatives, interested residents and a sustainability consultant.
"With all of the development and redevelopment that will be taking place in West Windsor, it is a good time to define better ways to protect our environment," Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh said.
Sustainable development, originally applied to decisions with global or national implications, is increasingly being adopted at the community level.
The initiative’s objectives include recommending "green" processes and practices, and disseminating and implementing environmentally sustainable practices in the wider community.
The project is funded by a grant from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions and township funds.
