Police Beat for the week of Nov. 3

   Police charged a 17-year-old township boy with a string of vehicular offenses after a two-car accident on Cedar Lane last week.
   According to police, the boy had been following closely behind another 17-year-old driver, whom he then passed. Once in front of the other driver, the boy slammed on his brakes, causing the other driver to run into him, police said.
   According to police, the township boy got out of his truck and confronted the other driver, when officers arrived. Police charged the boy at 10:02 p.m. with criminal mischief, harassment, driving without a license, reckless driving, improper passing, tailgating and failure to report an accident. He was released to a relative pending an appearance in juvenile court.

   Police charged two men with weapons offenses after a routine traffic stop on Hornberger Avenue last week.
   According to police, officers stopped 19-year-old Jaquan Welch of Mount Laurel and 18-year-old Michael Shiffler of Philadelphia for driving without headlights around 9 p.m. Oct. 26. Mr. Schiffler was driving the vehicle, said police. At the stop, police said, officers smelled marijuana in the car. Officers searched the car and found a plastic bag stuffed with 10 smaller bags of suspected marijuana; Mr. Welch and Mr. Shiffler were then searched and officers found that each was carrying a switchblade knife, police said.
   Mr. Welch was charged with possession of a weapon and released after posting $2,500 bail. Mr. Shiffler was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also released after posting $2,500 bail.
   A court date is pending for both.
