In what promises to a controversial evening, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton and the Whole Earth Center, an established natural foods vendor in Princeton, are joining forces to bring one of the most eminent nutrition scientists and health policy advocates to Princeton for a free public lecture on Sunday at 7 p.m.
T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., will present his findings to the public in a lecture titled "Challenging the Status Quo: The Misunderstood Role of Nutrition in Health, Medicine and Society." The lecture will focus on the "startling" research results that Dr. Campbell has amassed through 40 years of research and the implications for human health in his recently published book, "The China Study" (Benbella Books 2005).
"The China Study" is the fruit of a 20-year partnership between the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine and Cornell University. Dr. Campbell’s data support a strong and direct link between nutrition and cancer.
"The China Study," the largest epidemiological study ever conducted on diet and risk of disease, has been recognized by The New York Times as the "Grand Prix of Epidemiology."
Dr. Campbell is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University and the project director of the China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project. He has written more than 300 research papers and policy reports. He is known for seminal work on the discovery of dioxin at MIT and his work on the role of aflatoxin in liver cancer while at Virginia Tech.
The lecture will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, located at 50 Cherry Hill Road, Princeton.
