Edwin D. Gustafson
Former Montgomery resident
NEW MILFORD, Conn. Edwin Donald Gustafson died Oct. 16. He was 81.
Born in New Brunswick, he grew up in Highland Park and was a former Montgomery Township resident.
His business career was in college textbook publishing, primarily in New York City.
He was a member of Princeton Friends Meeting and served as a clerk for a number of years.
He was also a member of the PJ&B musical productions at McCarter Theatre. He had a lifelong interest in music and sang tenor in various choruses, madrigal groups and barbershop quartets. He also played the trombone, using the same instrument from his boyhood into his seventies.
He enjoyed fishing on Gananoque Lake in Ontario with his father and sons and was a lifelong gardener, developing an interest in bonsai in later years. He also enjoyed reading and bird-watching.
He attended Middlebury College in Vermont and went on to serve as a lieutenant junior grade in the Pacific in World War II. He returned to Middlebury, where he skied and was on the cross-country team and graduated in 1948 with a degree in economics. He married a classmate, Jean Gihon Huey, in 1949.
Father of the late Ralph D. H. Gustafson, brother of the late Dan D. Gustafson, he is survived by his children, Carla Reardon of Boulder, Colo., Rebecca G. Brown and William T. Gustafson of Worcester, Mass., Kirsten Gustafson, Anders Gustafson and stepdaughter Erin Linstrom, all of Winsted, Conn.; sister Ruth Mattick of Hays, Kan., and her children Tom, Carl and Leslie; sister-in-law Maria Gustafson of Williamsport, Pa.; grandchildren Johanna, Peter and Sarah Brown; and nieces Ruth, Christine, Julia and Cathy.
A memorial service will be held privately by the family.
Marcella C. Farley
Former Princeton health officer
LAWRENCE Marcella Coria Farley died Saturday at the Compassionate Care Center at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. She was 86.
Born in Princeton, she lived for 53 years in Lawrence.
Mrs. Farley was health officer in Princeton and later worked at the Hightstown Board of Health for many years. After a brief retirement, she worked with her husband for a short time in the security badge department at Merrill Lynch in Plainsboro.
In mid-life, Mrs. Farley enjoyed power boating on Barnegat Bay with her husband.
Mrs. Farley served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II from 1943 through 1945, attaining the rank of 2nd lieutenant.
Mrs. Farley was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
Wife of the late Earl W. Farley, who died July 2, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda J. and Kenneth A. Roberts, of Washington Crossing, Pa.
Services were private and under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home, Princeton.

Filomena Castaldi
Daughter lives in Princeton
MONROE Filomena M. Cortellini Castaldi died Sunday at Princeton Care Center, Princeton. She was 81.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she lived in New York City and later Greenlawn, Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Clearbrook in Monroe in 1981.
After moving to Monroe, she worked as the chief of nurses at the University Medical Center at Princeton’s nursing school until the school closed. She then worked as the administrative assistant to the head of Princeton Forrestal Center until her retirement in 1999.
After graduating from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx, she worked as a civil servant for the federal government in Manhattan. She later created and developed a nursery school for Kingsview Cooperative Homes in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she also worked as a teacher’s assistant. She introduced Italian cooking and culture programs at the flagship Abraham & Straus department store in Brooklyn.
In Greenlawn, she worked many years as administrative assistant to the chief of nurses at Northport Veterans Administration Hospital.
An avid cook and baker, she often demonstrated and shared her skills with various people and organizations. Fluent in Italian, she started several Italian cultural clubs in New York and New Jersey. She was active in several Roman Catholic churches over the years and sang in church choirs. She was a communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monroe.
Wife of the late Ralph J. Castaldi, mother-in-law of the late George Morton, sister of the late Joseph L. Cortellini, she is survived by her daughter, Teresa M. Castaldi Morton of Princeton; son and daughter-in-law Andrew R. and Elizabeth Castaldi of Wilton, Conn.; grandson Andrew E. Castaldi; and a niece and two nephews.
A funeral is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Saturday at M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe.
Funeral liturgy is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monroe, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frances A. Davidson
Co-owned Cranbury store
Frances Adelaide Godfrey Davidson of Princeton died Thursday at home. She was 93.
Born in Sidney, N.Y., she was formerly a resident of Bainbridge, N.Y., and the Clearbrook section of Monroe Township for many years.
Mrs. Davidson and her husband formerly owned the Windsor Clock Shop in Cranbury.
She was a member of the Clearbrook Women’s Golf Association and an avid bridge player.
Daughter of the late Clifford and Inez Llewelyn Cargill Godfrey, wife of the late John S. Davidson and mother of the late Robert J. Davidson and his wife, Gwyneth Peters, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Davidson and William Vogt of Princeton; grandchildren Casanda D. Beauchamp, Gwyneth C. Holland, John Q. Davidson, William R. Davidson and Deborah G. Jessup; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton. The family requests that attendees wear color to honor the celebration of her life.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
