John Dean Eler
John Dean Eler, 58, of Solebury Township, Pa., and Normandy Beach, died Sunday at the Compassionate Care Hospice Center at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton.
Born in Trenton, he grew up in Ewing Township and graduated from the Parkway School, The Pennington School, Lehigh University and the University of Maryland, School of Law.
A third generation president of State Capital Title and Abstract Company in Trenton, he was recognized by members of the bar as an expert in real property title litigation. He was a partner in the law firm of Maida and Eler in Ewing Township. He was a member of the Mercer County Bar Association, New Jersey Land Title Association, New Jersey Title Abstractors Association, New Jersey State Bar Association, Real Property Probate Section Foreclosure Committee and a frequent speaker for The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Past president of the Trenton Jaycees and Hopewell Valley Optimists, he was a member of the Trenton Kiwanis Club and the Asa Packer Society of Lehigh University. For nearly 20 years he served on the board of the Rescue Mission of Trenton.
A member of the Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, The Nassau Club of Princeton, Hopewell Valley Golf Club, the Normandy Beach (NJ) Yacht Club and the Philadelphia chapter of the Chaine Des Rotisseurs, he was also a lifetime member of The Society, Sons of the Revolution in the State of New Jersey where he served as legal counselor to the state organization and president of the Witherspoon Chapter.
Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth Dean Eler, Mr. Eler is survived by his wife Diane Gronikowski Eler; a daughter Jennifer Eler Haubrich and her husband Frederic and son Christopher John Eler and his wife Kathryn; his father Wellington Ballard Eler; a sister Dr. Barbara Jean Eler and her partner Judy Koch; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, Pennington Circle. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Stuart H. Spencer, pastor of the Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, New Hope, Pa., officiating.
Interment will be private in the Ewing Church Cemetery.

Al Sussman
Al Sussman, 88, of Ewing, founder of Al Sussman Realty Inc., died Monday at the Greenwood House.
Born in Trenton, Mr. Sussman was a former resident of Lawrenceville and Pennington.
Mr. Sussman’s career originated in a grocery business located in Trenton. Later he was the co-owner of the Cordial Inn and retired after 35 years in real estate. He was a former trustee of the Jewish Community Center and a member of Adath Israel Congregation, Fortitude Lodge #160 Knights of Pythias and the National Association of Realtors. A member of Greenacres Country Club, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Husband of the late Aviva Konov Sussman, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Elaine Sussman of Princeton; a daughter, Carole Ballew of Austin, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Jules and Blanche Sussman of Newtown, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Jerry Goldman of Lake Worth, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Scott, Jeffrey, Daniel and Carly Sussman, and Sunday Ballew.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Adath Israel Congregation, Lawrenceville.
Burial was at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park.
Period of mourning will be observed Thursday at the Sussman residence in Princeton.

Cardwell
Jane E. Johns Cardwell of Ewing died Nov. 1 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa.
Born in Amherst, Va., she moved with her family to Hopewell Township in 1934. She attended Hopewell Township schools and was employed at Yard’s store in Trenton and New Method Cleaners in West Trenton.
Daughter of the late Theodore (Candy) and Mattie Johns, wife of the late Paul Rice and Calvin C. Cardwell and sister of the late Elizabeth Johnson, she is survived by a daughter Paula Chianese and son-in-law Robert; grandchildren Alexander and Vanessa Chianese of California; sons Wayne Cardwell of North Carolina and Jeffrey Cardwell of Georgia; sisters Patricia Conti of Metuchen, Anna Hillman and Hazel Rhodes of Hopewell Township, Dorothy Baughman of Ewing; brother Theodore Johns of Harmony; a niece Patricia Johnson Rauschert of Stockton; a longtime friend and companion Walter Leach; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Ms. Cardwell was buried in a private service at Franklin Memorial Park under the direction of the Blackwell Memorial Home, Pennington.
