The Princeton Festival will celebrate its first birthday and Mozart’s 250th next summer with a variety of musical offerings in the Kirby Arts Center at the Lawrenceville School.
Artistic Director Richard Tang Yuk recently announced that the 2006 season will open Saturday, June 24, with a fully staged production of Giacomo Puccini’s "Madama Butterfly" featuring an all-professional cast and The Princeton Festival Chorus and Orchestra. This popular opera, which has endeared audiences worldwide, will be presented again on July 1 and 9, alternating with evenings of chamber music with the Concordia Chamber Players, jazz, and an all-Mozart orchestra concert.
"A professional summer arts festival is something the Princeton community needs and deserves," says Mr. Tang Yuk. "We are gratified by our fast-growing group of supporters and the sense of pride they hold in being part of The Princeton Festival team."
The newly formed organization opened its inaugural season last June with Stephen Sondheim’s "Sweeney Todd," to critical acclaim. U.S. 1 stated that " . . . this rippingly staged and performed production bodes well for the future of this new company. What is immediately in evidence is The Princeton Festival’s artistic integrity."
The Princeton Festival’s mission is to provide the greater Princeton community with a high-quality professional summer arts festival. With an initial focus on opera, chamber and orchestral music, The Princeton Festival’s vision is to present a diverse range of performing arts as the company grows, bringing several disciplines together.
