Long-distance cyclist sets Princeton rally in fundraiser

Liberian-born artist turned social activist Doughba Hamilton Caranda-Martin will ride his bicycle this week from New York City to Washington, including a stop in Princeton, as a fundraising effort to bring awareness to the plight of suffering in sub-Sahara Africa.
The journey will kick off Thursday morning across from the United Nations in New York City, and he is scheduled to make his first stop in Princeton later that day. He will continue on to Philadelphia and Baltimore, ending his trip at the World Bank in Washington.
This is the first fundraising effort for Project Momentum’s "Dollars for Africa" campaign to buy medical supplies for the poverty-stricken region that continues to be plagued by HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other deadly diseases.
A rally in Mr. Caranda-Martin’s honor will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Stokes Lounge in Whig Hall on the Princeton University campus.
Along with its partner organizations, Project Momentum has delivered more than $4 million in direct medical aid to health institutions in West Africa. The organization also assists in the building of wells in war-torn areas and supply orphanages and schools with medical support and educational materials.
