Construction of a press box by the Pop Warner Football Association at the Hopewell Township municipal athletic complex was approved by the Township Committee Monday night.
The complex is on the western side of Scotch Road, just north of the municipal building. Pop Warner will pay for the press box.
In other business Monday night, the committee voted to award a contract, not to exceed $577,208, to Star of the Sea Concrete Corporation of Old Bridge. The firm will do road maintenance work in the township. It submitted the lowest of three bids for the job.
The committee also awarded a contract, not to exceed $233,000, to Arawak Paving Company of Hammonton, which will work on Bull Run Road, which runs along the township’s southern border, near I-95. Arawak submitted the lowest of three bids.
Also approved was a contract, not to exceed $2,000, with Brinkerhoff Environmental Services of Manasquan. That firm will do an environmental assessment of the Burroughs tract of land, located off Scotch Road south of Route 546. The Burroughs tract, of which the township is contract purchaser, is targeted for affordable housing.
The committee also voted to apply for two state grants, totaling $42,200, for new equipment in the 9-1-1 center of township police headquarters. The committee OK’d a new contract with the unionized 9-1-1 operators, under which they will get a 4 percent pay raise for 2004, 2005 and 2006.
