Seven Princeton-area artists will open their studios to the public on Dec. 3 and 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. to benefit the Arts Council of Princeton. The art will be for sale and the artists will be on hand to answer questions about what they do and how they do it.
The featured artists work in many different media including oils, watercolor, acrylics, ceramics, sculpture and basket weaving.
Jeanne Pasley, for example, has received wide recognition for her sculpture over the years. Her studio tour, however, will include oil paintings as well as sculpture. Victoria Tsu Moy, once a ceramic artist, is mow concentrating on drawing. Lucy Graves McVicker, known for her water color, collage and mixed media work has added oil painting to her artistic vocabulary. And Helen Schwartz, who was for many years a painter and printmaker, now concentrates exclusively on weaving unique art baskets.
Other artists who will open their studio doors include Betty Curtiss, Stan Kephart and Donna Hunsberger.
Ms. Curtiss is noted for her plein-air paintings, which include landscape, and for her work focusing on marine life and a series that centers on cows. Mr. Kephart, a former graphic designer, has taken on a second artistic life as a painter. While working in a variety of styles, he is well known for his local landscapes which capture Prineton, past and present. Ms. Hunsberger makes a strong abstract statement in large-scaled work made strong by her interest in powerful primary color.
