The Regional Planning Partnership of New Jersey has appointed Montgomery Planning Board Chairman Steven Sacks-Wilner to its board.
"I was very excited," Mr. Sacks-Wilner said. "I want to see RPP more involved in formulating public policy. I hope that is one of my primary functions."
Mr. Sacks-Wilner said he is looking forward to being a part of RPP, because it is a "very balanced group, with companies like Johnson & Johnson, as well as environmentalists and municipal workers. … The positions it takes are very even."
Mr. Sacks-Wilner was introduced as a board member at a dinner Nov. 4 attended by more than 400 business leaders including architects, attorneys, developers and environmentalists, according to a news release issued by RPP.
Every year, RPP appoints new board members, and each member serves for at least one three-year term, explained Ann Brady, the partnership’s vice president.
"Steve was recommended by some current board members as a good addition," Ms. Brady said. "He has a fresh perspective, and has done a lot of good work in Montgomery Township. He is a forward-thinker and is creative in what he does for the Montgomery Planning Board."
According to Ms. Brady, Mr. Sacks-Wilner will be expected to serve on at least one committee, although which specific committee has yet to be determined.
"Our flagship project is smart growth in New Jersey," Ms. Brady said. "We have a conference on that coming in the spring. Steve may be able to help with that."
Smart growth, according to RPP’s Web site, is intended to enhance the economy, environment, equity and efficiency through land-use decisions.
At the dinner, Johnson & Johnson, one of RPP’s founding members, was presented the C. McKim Norton Community Development Award for its contribution to New Jersey’s economy and its commitment to environmental quality.
The Regional Planning Partnership has promoted growth management and urban and suburban redevelopment for more than 35 years.
