Janice C. McBurney , 76, died Saturday at Park Place Nursing Home in South Brunswick after a long illness.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind., and raised in New Brunswick, she married Joseph Olasz, who died in 1978, and moved to New York City. In 1978 she moved to Princeton and opened a ladies boutique, A La Mode. In 1988 she married Colin McBurney and moved to Hopewell, where they owned and operated The Country House store for many years.
Mrs. McBurney, a collector of African art, once donated a collection to the Trenton Art Museum. She also collected Van Briggle pottery. A jewelry-maker, she sold her creations to the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
Preceded in death by her husband Colin McBurney and son Jan Olasz, she is survived by a son Greg Olasz of New York City; a daughter Lisa Olasz of Monmouth Junction; a sister Lois Reilley of Hopewell; and a sister Julia McNamara of Springfield, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 71 E. Prospect St., Hopewell. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Robinson will officiate.
Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Calling hours will be today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
