PLAINSBORO — Plainsboro Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will offer a special salute to servicemen and women serving far away from home during the holiday season.
The fire company will salute sailors, soldiers, Marines and airmen from Plainsboro, or related to Plainsboro residents, by name on the sign outside the fire company’s station at 407 Plainsboro Road.
"When you’re far away from home, especially in the holiday season, it helps to know that you are remembered at home," said Andy Carroll, a fire company member who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Continuing through the holiday season, Plainsboro residents who have a family member serving in the armed forces can call the fire company during business hours at (609) 799-0492 or stop in the fire station and leave the information, including a phone number for contact.
Priority will be given to military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, followed by those serving in other duty stations around the world and in the United States. Family members will be encouraged to photograph the sign and send a digital image to let their relatives in the military know that they are remembered at home during the holidays.
