JoAnn Meyer and Doug Brower get awards
By John Tredrea
Three communications projects overseen by school district Public Information Officer JoAnn Meyer recently won first-place awards from the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA).
The receipt of the awards was announced at Monday night’s meeting of the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education.
A project from Doug Brower, the district’s technology supervisor, won a second-place award.
The three projects overseen by Ms. Meyer are the district’s calendar/parent handbook, which includes photos of original student artwork; Valley View, a quarterly newsletter mailed to district families; and Portraits of Excellence, which profiles various district success stories. Mr. Brower’s award was landed for the district’s Web site.
"Thanks to JoAnn and Doug for keeping us informed in an excellent way," school board President Kim Newport said.
IN OTHER BUSINESS, board member Kevin Doran, who chairs the board’s Finance Committee, said the district fared well in its annual audit done by the Medford firm of Holman & Frenia. The audit covered the fiscal year that ended June 30.
"We received a clean auditor’s opinion in all important areas," Mr. Doran said. He said the audit did make some minor recommendations, all of which are being implemented. None of the areas covered by the recommendations "pose any financial risk whatever," he said. The positive audit is "a credit to our district’s staff and leadership," Mr. Doran said.
The board voted unanimously to formally accept the auditor’s report and implement the recommendations.
The board also approved a series of personnel actions, all at the recommendation of schools Superintendent Judy Ferguson. Among the approved items were:
Acceptance of the resignation of Central High School social studies teacher Phillip Novack, effective Oct. 28.
Acceptance of the resignation of Central High School mathematics teacher Nancy Andreski, effective Dec. 23.
Appointment of Keith Easy as night custodian at Central High School, effective Nov. 22, at $30,808 annually.
Appointment of Nicole Frangione as musical choreography consultant for the 2005-2006 school year at $22 per hour, not to exceed 68 hours.
Appointment of David Johnson as a volunteer school bus mechanic for the 2005-2006 school year.
