Second-grader Amalia Morera had her shopping budget set and began filling her basket with holiday gifts for her family while at school on Monday.
"I’m buying lots of stuff," Amalia said. "I can buy for my family because they have lots of stuff here."
The PTA at Weston Elementary School organized the third annual Santa’s Workshop at the school library to give students a chance to shop around for their friends and family.
The students were able to choose their gifts from an array of items laid out on the tables in the library but they had to choose wisely and stay within their budget.
Gifts were available for every family member a "Super Sister" jumbo pen, a "Number One Dad" flashlight, Grandpa mugs and a Grandpa’s fix-it list.
Several students also considered buying best friends bracelets and a black case screw driver set for their dads. Santa’s Workshop even sold Tiffany birthstone rings for only a dollar.
As the students browsed and shopped around, two parents dressed in red Santa hats bagged the gifts for the students. They also made sure the students stayed within their budget.
"The whole school gets to visit," Principal Don Frank said. "They get to shop for family members. It’s done just to give the kids that opportunity."
