Youths arrested at park building

Three juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested on Nov. 30 and charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

At 7:44 p.m., Ocean Township police responded to a burglar alarm at the Building and Grounds facility located in Palaia Park on Whalepond Road. They saw an individual standing in an open door of the building with a crow bar in his hands. Upon seeing the police, he fled into the building.

Additional police officers were dispatched to the scene, and after a short time the juveniles exited the building and were arrested. Sgt. Gerald Turning Jr. of the Tinton Falls Police Department and his K-9 arrived at the scene and determined no one else was in the building.

An investigation revealed that two exterior lights on the building were broken, a metal door was forced open, and vehicles inside the building had items removed from them.

The three juveniles were processed and transported to the Monmouth County Youth Detention facility in Freehold.
