Book club: Janet Evanovich’s "Visions of Sugar Plums," is the topic for the Evening Book Discussion group that meets at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System.
This installment of Ms. Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series find the detective struggling to remove an intruder from her apartment and falling for a mysterious newcomer.

Community Band concert: The Lawrence Community Concert Band will perform a free concert of holiday music at 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Senior Center, 30 Darrah Lane East.
The band will be led by conductor John Bonfanti of Lawrence. The program will include a number of pieces of traditional Christmas and Hanukkah selections and other popular music.
The Lawrence Community Concert Band was organized in 1992 and annually performs concerts for civic and holiday events, senior citizen communities and nursing homes. The band comprises accomplished amateur musicians from many walks of life, ranging in age from teenagers to senior citizens.
The band regularly rehearses at the Lawrence Senior Center on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. New members are welcome.
Medical marijuana meeting: The Coalition for Medical Marijuana-New Jersey will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System.
The meeting will review the status of medical marijuana legislation bills in the state Legislature.

Safety seminar for kids: Tiger Schulmann’s Karate at the Mercer Mall will hold a free abduction prevention seminar for children.
The program will be held at 11:30 a.m.
The seminar will focus on teaching children basic abduction prevention skills, through situation skits, and through discussions about strangers, avoidance, code words and escape techniques.
Instructors will teach children tactics on what to do and what not to do when they are home alone.
Parents will also be coached on the importance of educating their children on identifying potentially dangerous situations, and teaching them how to react.
The seminar is part of Tiger Schulmann’s Karate CHILDSAFESM program, established in 1992 to teach awareness about child safety, and to encourage communication.

Christmas concert: The Church of Saint Ann, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, invites the public to a performance by the Youth Choir Concert at 3 p.m. in the main sanctuary.
The Youth Choir will perform music of the Advent and Christmas season including the cantata "Arise, Shine!"
The event is free, and refreshments will be served.

Healing service: The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville invites the community to a Service of Prayers and Readings on at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel which will focus on finding hope in this season. The service will help participants look at changes or losses their lives including: the loss of a close friend due to retirement or changing from one stage in life to another; "empty nest syndrome"; separation or divorce; dealing with a physical disability due to illness or the aging process; recovering from an addiction or giving up a long-held dream.
During the service, anonymous remembrances of loss and healing and hope, written by church members, are read. The service ends with a candle lighting service.
