MONROE — A North Brunswick man was in serious condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on Thursday, because of injuries sustained when he lost control of his car and hit a tree at the intersection of Louise Lane and Briggs Avenue early Saturday morning.
Township Police Lt. Kenneth Gross said Tuesday that 39-year-old Theodore Kachel was traveling west on Louise Lane in his 2003 E320 Mercedes just after 12 a.m. Saturday when he ran a stop sign at the road’s three-way intersection with Briggs Avenue.
Mr. Kachel’s car jumped the curb on the west side of Briggs Avenue, traveled 25 feet and came to rest after striking a tree, Lt. Gross said. Mr. Kachel sustained a head injury, a broken right arm and a broken right femur in the crash.
   No one else was injured.
Lt. Gross said police are still investigating the crash. Mr. Kachel has been issued a traffic summons for driving while intoxicated, Lt. Gross said, adding that 100-foot- long skid marks at the scene indicate that speed was also a factor in the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the traffic safety unit at (732) 521-0222, ext. 126.
