An 18-year-old man from Branchburg died Monday morning after his car hit a guide rail and slid sideways into a tree, according to authorities.
Hillsborough police said that Andrew Colditz was traveling southbound in a red Chrysler Sebring on River Road between Beekman Lane and Chamberlain Drive at approximately 5:30 a.m. Monday.
They said that the cause of the crash is still under investigation but added the road was wet and heavy fog restricted visibility at the time of the accident.
Mr. Colditz was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hillsborough Rescue Squad, Somerset Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit, and the Somerset County prosecutor’s office Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene.
Mr. Colditz lived in Hillsborough before moving to Branchburg 12 years ago.
He was a 2005 graduate of Somerville High School. While a student at Somerville he lettered in swimming, played bass in the high school jazz band and wind ensemble and was a member of the marching band.
Mr. Corditz was an engineering student at Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute in Troy, N.Y.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday from Branchburg Funeral Home in Branchburg. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Hillsborough Township Police Department at 369-4323.
