Marie K. Creel, 84, of Monroe Village, died Thursday, Feb. 2, at home.
Born in Fairmont, W.Va., she resided in Edison for 43 years before moving to Monroe Village in 1995. She was a charter member of Oak Tree Presbyterian Church in Edison, where she had also been an elder. She was a former president of Church Women United Metuchen-Edison Unit. Ms. Creel received her AA degree from Thomas A. Edison College in 1978. She was a member of the State Prison Reform Committee. She had volunteered in courts and corrections in New Jersey and had been a probation officer in Middlesex County. She also had volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Girl Scouts of America.
Her husband, James, died in 1992. A brother, Joseph Anthony Knapp, also is deceased. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Gregory Knapp, Joanna Roses, Robert A. Knapp and Marie Heath.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Oak Tree Presbyterian Church, Plainfield Road, Edison.
