MONTGOMERY A kickoff meeting to start planning the activities for the township’s April 22 Earth Day Fair is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the conference room of the Municipal Building.
"We encourage anyone who is interested in participating in the Earth Day Fair to attend this meeting," Mayor Louise Wilson said. "Input and ideas are important to us."
The kickoff event will determine who will be at the April fair and what they will do, as well as serve to exchange ideas, said Gwen Farley, the Environmental Commission chair.
"We are hoping businesses like ShopRite will donate food for the fair," Ms. Farley added.
At the April fair, the Environmental Commission is expecting Johnson & Johnson to host a free computer recycling drop-off. Also, the company will showcase a display involving its solar panel system, Ms. Garaffa said.
3M may also have a display explaining its stormwater improvement project, she said, and Princeton Honda may bring in a hybrid car.
The Environmental Commission also will give a stormwater runoff presentation, Ms. Farley said.
The Earth Day Fair itself will be held in the Otto Kauffman Community Center from noon to 4 p.m. on April 22.
"The goal of the Earth Day Fair is to hold a family fun event that will increase our residents’ awareness of practices and behaviors to preserve and protect our natural resources," Mayor Wilson said. "All local businesses, civic organizations, municipal committees, school groups and Scout troops are invited to volunteer and set up public education display tables on topics of environmental interest."
The groups who decide to volunteer can set up exhibits, donate products or food, provide music or other entertainment, or aid in the planning, the mayor added.
Those planning to attend should e-mail Yasmin Reyes, the event’s planner and member of the township’s Environmental Commission, at [email protected] or Public Information Officer and commission member Tammy Garaffa at [email protected].
