ARCHITECTURE
   Hillier Architecture celebrates 40 years in business this year. Begun in 1966 by J. Robert Hillier in Princeton, the firm has grown to include 350 architects, interior designers, city planners and preservationists in offices in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Shanghai, as well as its West Windsor office.    Michael Farewell, partner and lead designer with Farewell Mills Gatsch Architects LLC, has been named Architect of the Year for 2005 by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Joining the firm in 1978 and becoming a partner in 1987, he assumed the role of lead designer in 1991 and has led the firm’s new design to prominence with four national design awards and 10 AIA state awards.
CONSTRUCTION
   V.J. Scozzari & Sons Inc., based in Lawrence, has announced the addition of two new members to its estimating staff. John Ehling joins as a senior project estimator with 20 years experience in general construction; and Lara Elizabeth Kelly as an estimating assistant project engineer. She has eight years of experience in construction has been as an office manager and executive project administrator.
LAW
   Hopewell resident Lindsay L. Burbage has merged his practice with the Lawrence law firm of Stark & Stark. For over 29 years, Mr. Burbage has practiced a wide range of general law from real estate to decedent’s estates, however his primary concentration has always been in litigation, both civil and criminal.
   Stark & Stark has over 100 attorneys including 22 New Jersey Supreme Court Board Certified Trial Attorneys. Stark & Stark has offices in Lawrenceville, Cherry Hill, Philadelphia, New York and Trenton.

   Paul P. Josephson, a partner in the Princeton law firm Hill Wallack, recently received the New Jersey State Bar Association’s distinguished legislative achievement award. Mr. Josephson was recognized for his work on behalf of the state bar association assuring that attorneys are not considered lobbyists under new lobbying laws passed in 2004.
   Mr. Josephson testified before the Election Law Enforcement Commision, regarding the implementation of the new lobbying laws, asserting the need to preserve attorney-client confidences, and recognizing the U.S. Supreme Court’s ultimate authority to regulate attorneys. Mr. Josephson is partner-in-charge of Hill Wallack’s regulatory & government affairs practice group.
   Hill Wallack has also added a new associate to its Princeton office. Anthony R. Christiano has joined the firm in its land use division which includes the firm’s land use applications litigation and environmental applications practice groups. Mr. Christiano is a resident of Trenton.

   Gerard P. Norton has joined Fox Rothschild’s Princeton office, and has been named Chair of its Intellectual Property Group. The IP practice is unique because many attorneys, including Mr. Norton, have pharmaceutical or scientific backgrounds that help in their understanding of their clients’ business issues, as well as their legal issues. Mr. Norton was a scientist at Merck before he began practicing law.
HEALTH and MEDICINE
   Pharmacopeia, an innovator in the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics, announced that one of the compounds resulting from its collaboration with Schering-Plough has demonstrated activity in Phase I studies as a potential treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a progressive disease of the airways. The compound was the subject of a public presentation at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society held recently.
   "The findings from this trial are very encouraging as they demonstrate the potential for this compound to effectively inhibit a key component of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease," said Dr. Les Browne, Pharmacopeia’s president and chief executive officer. "We are looking forward to seeing how the compound performs in further clinical studies."
   Pharmacopeia currently has 10 compounds in development, each partnered with a major pharmaceutical or biotechnology company. Six of these compounds are in preclinical development.

   At its annual board meeting, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton officials noted that ground has been broken on an expanded $63 million facility. The new addition would add close to 100 hospital beds to RWJ hospital.
   RWJ hospital also announced that its Hamilton facility has been recognized among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the United States by HealthGrades, an independent health-care ratings organization. The HealthGrades distinguished hospital for clinical excellence award has been given to only nine hospitals in New Jersey. RWJ Hamilton was also recognized by HealthGrades with separate special excellence awards for its critical care, gastrointestinal, pulmonary and stroke care. Specialty excellence awards mean that an organization has scored in the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for providing a particular service, according to RWJ.
REAL ESTATE
   NAI Global, a world-wide network of independently owned commercial real estate brokerage firms, has signed an agreement with WorldWater & Power Corp. to introduce their solar energy technology to the NAI Global network of commercial property managers and clients. The two firms will work to identify prospects for the purchase of equipment, electric power or services from WorldWater & Power. In addition, NAI Global may aid in purchase negotiations and governmental approvals necessary for the construction of projects.
   NAI Global and WorldWater & Power Corp. previously partnered in the donation of a solar powered mobile water purification system, to Waveland, Miss., one of the hardest-hit communities by Hurricane Katrina.
NONPROFIT
   Jessica Lampros of Bloomfield has been named Development Director of the New Jersey Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic of Princeton.
   Ms. Lampros has worked in financial development at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of he Fine Arts and WYBE Public Television.
   The New Jersey Unit has recording facilities in the Princeton area and provides educational outreach services for almost 500 member schools throughout the state. The units’ volunteers have recorded more than 8,000 hours of educational material for individuals with visual impairments or learning disabilities such as dyslexia. The nonprofits national headquarters is also in Princeton.
NEW VENTURES

FINANCIAL SERVICES
   Bartolomei Pucciarelli LLC, a full-service business advisory and CPA firm based in Lawrence, has announced that David S. Briones of Hillsborough has joined its team as a senior accountant. In this capacity he will provide a range of accounting, tax and consulting services for corporate clientele, including financial statement preparation, tax compliance and planning, valuations, forecasting, audits and reviews. Mr. Brione’s background highlights similar responsibilities with several regional and international accounting firms.

   Vijay Deshpande has been recognized by Allstate Insurance Co. for high standards in customer satisfaction, customer retention and financial service sales, earning him the Allstate Honor Ring award. For nearly 60 years, the Honor Ring has been Allstate’s symbol of outstanding achievement, worn with pride by generations of Allstate producers. MARKETING
   West Windsor native Natalie Silverman recently joined Oxford Communications as traffic manager. She will coordinating all agency jobs, managing traffic between the art department and account executives to ensure a high level of productivity and efficiency. Ms. Silverman comes to Oxford with an extensive background in broadcast news writing, having worked at WPST 97.5 FM, Q102 and New Jersey 101.5 FM.
   Also new at Oxford is Stacey Matteo. Previously she worked for Campus Philly, a non-profit, student-led organization that works in partnership with the city of Philadelphia to connect college students to life in the city.
   Oxford Communications has offices in Lambertville and Manhattan.

   Princeton-based VERGE 180 received an award for designing official logos commemorating The College of New Jersey’s 150th Anniversary. The gold award for "Visual Design in Print: Logos/Nameplates" from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education was presented last month at a CASE-sponsored conference. The College of New Jersey’s "Once We Were Normal" logo series was specially designed to commemorate the college’s Sesquicentennial Celebration – (1855-2005). The logo theme revolved around the original name of the college – The New Jersey State Normal School.

   Princeton Partners Inc., the marketing and communications agency, received the "Best in Show" award given out by the New Jersey Communications, Advertising and Marketing Association, for a public service newpaper campaign created for the Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness.
   Princeton Partners received the NJCAMA award for its Needles, Money, Streets campaign, budgeted for under $5,000, for the Mercer Alliance. The Princeton-based agency also announced that it was named to BtoB magazines 2005list of top agencies.
RESTAURANTS
   Nassau Park Saladworks has announced its grand opening April 8 at Nassau Park shopping center in West Windsor, next to CompUSA. Saladworks will serve salads, sandwiches, wraps, and other items.
   Throughout the week of April 8, Saladworks will hold a series of opening-week tastings and other events. Discounts on orders for Nassau Park businesses and employees will also be offered.
   Since its inception in 1986, Saladworks has offered "quick-casual" food for diners.
BREWING
   The River Horse Brewing Co. received two gold medals in the world beer championships, held annually by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago.
   River Horse, a 10-year old craft brewery based in Lambertville, was awarded medals for best 6-pack carrier design and best case box design for its Tripel Horse Belgian Ale. River Horse distributes its beers in nine Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia.
BUSINESS COUNCIL
   The president of an area corporate event planning company, The Stoltman Group LLC, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. Marsha Stoltman has been an active member of the chamber since the launch of her business in 2001. Involved in many facets of the chamber and often serving as a volunteer, she is a charter member of the Women in Business Committee and has been instrumental in developing some of its initiatives and programs. She is also very active in the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners, the Hamilton Partnership, and Friends of the New Jersey State Library, among other organizations.
