The wife of a 59-year-old Newton man killed in a March 23 traffic accident in Hopewell Township has been charged with disregarding a red light while driving the vehicle in which her husband was a passenger.
The driver of the pickup truck — Gabriel Aparicio-Perez, 40, of Cherry Hill Road, Princeton Township — that hit the passenger-side door of the Newton couple’s car has been charged with violating his nonresident licensed driver touring privileges. Under those privileges, he does not have a valid license to drive in this state, police said.
Hopewell Township police Lt. Lance Maloney said Tuesday that Patrolman Vincent Amabile, who investigated the accident, had just filed the charge of disregarding the red light against Jessie DeWire, who was released from the hospital Monday.
Ms. DeWire, 58, was hospitalized for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident, in which her 59-year-old husband, Gary DeWire, was killed. Mr. and Mrs. DeWire lived on Crest Avenue in Newton.
Mr. DeWire was pronounced dead at the accident scene on March 23 after the Pontiac G6 in which he was a passenger was struck by a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck at the intersection of county Routes 579 and 518 in western Hopewell Township.
The pickup hit the passenger-side door of the Pontiac at 6:16 p.m. Ms. DeWire was driving south on Route 579 (Harbourton-Rocktown Road) when Mr.Aparicio-Perez’ vehicle, which was going east on Route 518, hit the Pontiac.
Ms. DeWire was extricated from her vehicle and transported to Capital Health Systems at Fuld, where she was a patient until Monday.
The case has been forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
