The YWCA Princeton will team with the YWCA of Trenton to host the National Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism on April 25.
The goal of the event is to bridge the gap between Princeton and Trenton, and a full day of events will be held at the Carl Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding on the Princeton University campus.
Beginning at 9 a.m. with breakfast, the day will feature an introduction of the two new CEOs Judith Hutton of Princeton and Jose Hernandez of Trenton a keynote address by Isles Inc. founder Marty Johnson, a presentation by members of the Corner House program titled "Growing up Accepted as an Individual in America," a video excerpt from a performance by Passage Theatre in Trenton and an award presentation to Trenton High School essay contest winners.
Princeton Township Committeeman Lance Liverman will host a panel discussion about racial tension in Princeton and Trenton. Amada Sandoval, director of the university Women’s Center, Makeba Clay, director of the Fields Center, Christopher Hyun, a teacher at Montgomery Middle School, Cynthia Mendez, executive director of Princeton Human Services, Marty Johnson, Jose Hernandez and Judith Hutton will sit on the panel, and the public is encouraged to ask questions.
The event is cosponsored by the Princeton University Women’s Center, Princeton Human Services, Isles, David White of Passage Theatre and others. There is no fee for attending, but participants are encouraged to register by calling (609) 497-2100, ext. 360 or by e-mailing [email protected].
