BREAKING NEWS: Cranbury school plan approved

The budget will raise $13.8 million in taxes for the general fund and increase taxes by 3.2 percent in 2006-2007.

   Voters approved the 2006-07 school budget Tuesday and selected three to serve on the school board.
   Incumbents Joan Rue, Lynne Schwarz and Bill Schraudenbach were reelected to three-year terms. Mr. Schwartz received 356 yes votes, Ms. Rue 332 and Mr. Schraudenbach 338.
   Voters also approved the $14.8 million school spending plan 291 to 135. The budget will raise $13.8 million in taxes for the general fund and increase taxes by 3.2 percent in 2006-2007.
   The plan carries a 7.04-cent school tax rate increase, to $2.252 per $100 of assessed valuation. That means he owner of a house assessed at the township average of $225,000 will pay $5,067 in school taxes, an increase of $158 from the current year.
