South Brunswick voters approved $126.1 million school budget Tuesday by a 1,689-1,434 vote and elected four members to the board of education.
Incumbent Robert Long led all voters with 2,008 votes, taking one of the three, three-year seats on the ballot. Stephen Parker, with 1,613 votes, and former school board member Barry Nathanson, with 1,513 votes, won the other two three-year seats. Bryan Wojaczyk, the fourth candidate for the three-year seats, garnered 1,431 votes.
Deborah Taylor won the one-year seat with 921 votes, followed by incumbent Daniel Watts with 677 votes, Arthur Robinson with 635 votes and Ed Birch with 285 votes. Ms. Taylor will fill the final year of an unexpired term, vacated by Michael Mahan last fall.
The budget carries a tax rate increase of 12.5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation to $2.44. The owner of a home assessed at the township average of $196,000 would pay $4,782 in school taxes, $245 more than the current average school tax bill.
