WEST WINDSOR — The Township Council will meet at 7 p.m. May 15 to hold an information session about the West Windsor government and begin the process of finding a replacement for Councilwoman Kristin Appelget, who announced she will resign effective May 8.
Members of the public are invited to express their interest in being considered for the interim appointment. Anyone who cannot attend that meeting but would like to be considered for the position should submit a letter to Township Clerk Sharon Young no later than 5 p.m. May 17.
Ms. Appelget’s replacement would serve as an interim council member pending the November election. The council has until June 7 to fill Ms. Appelget’s seat for the interim period.
The person elected in November will serve the remainder of Ms. Appelget’s term, through June 30, 2007.
At the May 15 meeting, the council will also give the public an overview of how government works in West Windsor. There will be a discussion of the mayor-council form of government, including the roles played respectively by the mayor and council members as well as the job of being a member of council, its responsibilities and the time commitment it requires.
This will be an opportunity for residents to hear about the role played by the Township Council from the perspectives of the clerk, the township attorney, council members, the mayor and the township administrator.
The council will meet to interview candidates for the interim position following the May 15 special meeting.
The vote to appoint the interim council member will be taken no later than the June 5 council meeting.
