ROCKY HILL A formal hearing on the 2006 municipal budget is slated for May 1.
"We are trying to hold tax increases to a minimum," said Councilman Richard Batchelder, chairman of the Finance and Insurance Committee. "We need to continue to pay off debt, as well as try to hold operating expenses flat."
The budget totals $919,553, up from $907,965 in 2005. It calls for a 4-cent municipal tax increase to 62.7 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The owner of the average home in Rocky Hill, assessed at about $200,000, will pay about $1,240, or $80 more than last year, if the budget is approved, Borough Clerk Toby Whitlock said.
The May 1 budget hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall, will provide an opportunity for public comment before the council takes a formal vote on its adoption.
The budget is available on the borough’s Web site, www.rockyhill-nj.gov.
