WEST WINDSOR The township Shade Tree Committee will host an Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ronald R. Rogers Arboretum at the corner of County Route 571 and Clarksville Road.
The celebration will feature the Community Middle School Girls Choir directed by Maureen Fernandez, Boy Scout Troop 40, and Casey Schoenholtz from Girl Scout Troop 1625.
The Green Scene, a local landscaping company, will plant trees in memory of Stephanie Au-Yeung and Gen Mors, two township women who died this year. Seedlings will be offered to anyone in attendance by the Shade Tree Committee, and refreshments will be provided by McCaffrey’s supermarket.
The top three finalists in four categories of a poetry contest conducted by the Shade Tree Committee will read their submissions and the winners will be announced. The four categories are grades K-3, grades 4 and 5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12. Cash prizes ranging from $20 to $80 will be awarded. The topic of the poems is related to trees and all poems submitted are original works.
The rain location for the Arbor Day celebration is the West Windsor Senior Center located on the municipal campus at 271 Clarksville Road. For questions, please contact Harley Pickens of the Shade Tree Committee at (609) 799-2400, ext. 332.
