Keep past preserved in Lambertville
By:Mae Rhine
It’s sad Lambertville again will lose a little piece of its architectural history.
Members of the Fleetwing Fire Company sold its circa 1867 building recently to a Lambertville woman who designs clothing. But she has promised to restore it to its "original grandeur," according to real estate agent Bruce Gage. She will have her retail shop on the first floor and will live upstairs, he said.
The fire company plans to bunk with the Union Fire Department once an addition has been built.
But it’s still a loss to a community so rich in history, including its impressive architecture.
We need to keep these memories preserved. That’s why the Lambertville Historical Society is asking people to share their stories of the city’s history.
It wants to talk to people who have lived in Lambertville for four or more decades, have friends, neighbors or family members who lived here many years ago and have homes with a long history, among others.
Any photographs, documents, artifacts or paintings that shed light on its history also are eagerly welcome.
Any connection to Lambertville’s past is of interest to the society.
The society has done a remarkable job in preserving the past, but it always needs help. Root through those "junk" drawers at home or boxes in the attic and see what you can find to add to the society’s memorabilia.
