The Black Box of Asbury Park’s Music of Invention series presents composer and series producer Carlton Wilkinson in an evening of original solo piano music today at 8 p.m. Wilkinson has been a producer of new music events and is a member of the music faculty at The College of New Jersey and Brookdale Community College. The Music of Invention series is presented on the third Thursday of each month at the Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts (SICA), 20 Third Ave., Long Branch. Thresh Dance Company will perform at the Two River Theater, 21 Bridge Ave. in Red Bank on Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. Thresh, an international group of artists, creates projects revealing crossovers and exchanges at cultural boundaries. The company implodes the traditional Indian dance and art idiom and forms a kinesthetic synergy with Western performing and visual arts.

The Red Bank Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society will present its annual concert on April 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Ocean Township High School. “Sentimental Springtime” will feature a lively program of springtime favorites sung in four-part harmony by the chapter’s Chorus of the Atlantic. The Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation (JSJBF) will present “Harpin’ Help 2006,” an all-day musicale on Sunday, April 30. The event will benefit The Children’s Sunshine House, Point Pleasant. Seven different bands with numerous guest artists will hold forth at Bar “A” in Lake Como at 703-5 16th Avenue, starting at 1 p.m. and running to about 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 12:45 pm, with the music starting at 1 p.m., sharp. Admission for the entire event is $15, plus 2 cans of nonperishable food or paper products. On Wednesday, May 3, at 7:30 pm, the Middletown Township Library and the Monmouth Conservatory of Music, Red Bank, will present a traditional domra-piano concert with world-renowned Russian artists, Alexander Tsygankov and his wife, Inna Shevchenko. The program includes classical works, Russian folk tunes and jazz-influenced compositions. The domra is an ancient instrument, thought to have been brought to Russia by the Mongols in the 13th century and during its history, has been banned in Russia for long periods. Over the Rainbow Productions will present “Love Letters,” at the Eatontown Playhouse, Tower Market Shopping Center, May 5 – 27 with a different couple starring each weekend. The playhouse will present “Steel Magnolias” June 9-July 1, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
