PQM slates ‘Fight Cancer Day’

Event set April 25 from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

   Pennington Quality Market will fight the battle against cancer with its 13th annual "Fight Cancer Day" on April 25 from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
   PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society (ACS) and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the ACS. The donation will be used to further cancer research, public education and patient services. Over the past 12 years Pennington Market has contributed a total of $133,267 to the ACS.
   When doors open at 8 a.m. the first 200 customers will receive a free half-gallon of Tropicana orange juice. Over 65 celebrity baggers will give time throughout the day by bagging the groceries of PQM shoppers.
   Entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. Arnie the Balloon Man will make balloon creations starting at 10 a.m. The Mummertime Musicians will perform throughout the afternoon. Two live radio broadcasts are scheduled. Chris Rollins from WPST will broadcast from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Brian Di Mario, Hawk Night Show host, will play easy listening from 2-4 p.m. Children can have faces painted from 3-7 p.m. by PQM artist Judy Roseboro and Stiltman Wayne will entertain from 10 feet. Highlighting the entertainment will be an appearance by Swoop, the Philadelphia Eagles mascot, from 5-6 p.m.
   In addition to a full schedule of entertainment, PQM and ACS have scheduled preventive health screenings. PQM associate Linda Bregenzer, a registered EMT of the Pennington Road Rescue Squad will take free blood pressure readings from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Throughout the day a certified massage therapist will offer free neck and shoulder massages. From 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Hopewell Township Board of Health will offer free colorectal cancer screening. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. learn about "Run for Dad," a community and family event designed to raise awareness about prostrate cancer in men and highlighting the importance of screening and early detection. From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., ACS will explain the "Slip, Slap, Slop" program and a Derma Scan machine will be available to illustrate the importance of sun protection. From 11 a.m.-5 p.m. check how well your exercise program is working or get motivated to start with a body fat analysis provided by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
   The ACS will display and provide materials concerning their guidelines for prevention and early detection of breast and testicular cancer from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. And from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. shoppers can learn more about "Relay for Life."
   From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., the Community Blood Council of New Jersey will hold PQM’s annual Blood Drive. Sign up by calling 737-0058. Each donor will receive a T-shirt. Bring a photo I.D. and eat within four hours of donating.
   Free food samples throughout the store will include dishes prepared by the chefs of Pennington Quality Market’s Catered Cuisine. Shoppers also can taste a Boar’s Head hot dog and a Coke for $1 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with all proceeds going to fight cancer.
   The Fight Cancer Day Raffle will offer an assortment of prizes donated by local merchants including BodyLogic Massage Therapy, Bon Worth, Freedman’s Jewelers, Friends Salon, Jazam’s, Orion Jewelry Studio, PEAC Health and Fitness, Pennington Bagel Experience, Pennington Clock Shop, Stony Brook Gardens, TJ’s Trattoria, Party Things, Queenstown Gallery, The Front Porch, Tia Donohue-Massage Therapist, Vito’s Pizza, and many more. Raffle tickets may be purchased at PQM beginning April 22 and all proceeds will be added to the total amount raised.
