Robert Williams
Lifelong Princeton resident
Robert Williams died Sunday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 80.
Born in Princeton, he was a lifelong resident.
A waiter at the Nassau Inn, he retired in 1982 and later worked at the Peacock Inn and The Annex.
He was a graduate of the Witherspoon School and Princeton High School in 1944.
He was predeceased by his parents James P. and Herbertine Dowers Williams, five brothers, one sister and grandchild Michelle Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Inez T.; son and daughter-in-law Robert E. and Lisa of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter Karen Brooks of Princeton; brother and sister-in-law John and Delores of Lawrence; grandchildren Sheree and Donovan of Virginia Beach, Va., Kevin Turner of Trenton, Nathan Cook and wife Tanjia of Depew, N.Y., and Sharon and Richard Cook of Greensboro, N.C.; cousins Walter Dowers of Little Rocky Hill, George and wife Lillian Dowers of Lawrence, Bernice Wrenn of Philadelphia, Walter "Cookie" Smith and wife Gloria of Chicago; sisters-in-law Willa Mae Williams of Trenton and Marion Williams; brother-in-law Ross W. Craig of Princeton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Princeton, John Street and Paul Robeson Place, with the Rev. Carlton E. Branscomb officiating.
Interment will be at Princeton Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. today until time of service at the church.

James H. Stevenson III
Former Princeton resident
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. James H. Stevenson III died suddenly April 14 at home. He was 70.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., he was a longtime Philadelphia resident. He moved to Princeton in 1981 and to West Palm Beach in 1991.
He was retired president of Stevenson, Bro. & Co. of Philadelphia, which was founded by his great-grandfather in 1863.
In Princeton, he worked at the Princeton University Library and acted with local companies in movies and commercial productions.
In the Palm Beach area, he led an active social life as an avid bridge player and talented dancer. He traveled extensively, most recently to Russia in the fall with Four Arts Society of Palm Beach to celebrate his 70th birthday.
He was a member of the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania, Society of Colonial Wars, Sons of the American Revolution and the Screen Actors Guild.
He was a 1953 graduate of Haverford School and a 1960 graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
While serving two years in the Army, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.
Son of the late James H. and Elizabeth C. Stevenson, father of the late James H. "Haze" Stevenson IV, who died in 1991, he is survived by his former wife, G.G. Meredith S.S. Smith of South Portland, Maine; daughter and son-in-law G. Gouverneur "Vivi" Stevenson Miller and David B. Miller of Fairview, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law Landis and Peter Eaton of Princeton; grandchildren Meredith E. and Townsend Byrd at home; nephews Brit and Steve Eaton; and niece Jesse E. Bilanin.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Palm Beach.

John Fiabane
Carpenter
John Fiabane of Princeton died Wednesday at Acorn Glen Assisted Living Residence. He was 92.
Born in Dortmund, Germany, he grew up in Feltre, Italy, where he was trained as a cabinet maker.
He served in the Italian Elite Alpine Division during World War II and immigrated to the United States in 1949 with his wife and three children.
He was a member of Local 783 Carpenter’s Union, Roma Eterna Society and Italian American Sportsmen Club.
Husband of the late Virginia Fiabane, he is survived by his brother, Quinto, in Feltre, Italy; daughter Carla Olsen of Griggstown; sons Dino of Cherry Hill and Bruno of Lawrence; and grandchildren Jason of Denver, Krista of Gaithersburg, Md., Amanda of Philadelphia, Elysha of Concord, Mass., and Lauren of Newtown, Pa.
A private service will be held 9:30 a.m. today at Kimble Funeral Home, Princeton, followed by a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Princeton.
Ernest H. Winter Jr.
Retired Army colonel
LAWRENCE Retired Army Col. Ernest H. Winter Jr. died suddenly Tuesday. He was 85.
Born in Orange, he graduated from The Lawrenceville School in 1940 and Williams College in 1950.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and attended officer candidate school. He fought in Europe as an artillery officer during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star for valor.
After the war, he served in Germany, Saudi Arabia and several posts in the United States.
Following his retirement, he was director of alumni affairs for The Lawrenceville School.
He was a member of Trinity Church in Princeton, the Springdale Golf Club and the Nassau Club.
His great enthusiasms were his family, golf and his late beloved poodle, Laddie.
Father of the late Bruce Winter, he is survived by his wife, Mary-Ann; daughter Hilary Winter of Princeton; son John Winter of Hamilton; son-in-law John Thurman of Princeton; brother Bruce B. Winter of Sarasota, Fla.; and grandson Bruce W. Thurman.
A private service will be held.
Burial will be in the Lawrenceville Cemetery.

Meyer M. Duchin
Daughter lives in West Windsor
MONROE Meyer M. Duchin died Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 91.
Born in Everett, Mass., Mr. Duchin was a former resident of Liberty, N.Y., and Sarasota, Fla.
He was a salesman with Rhulen Insurance Co. before retiring.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Son of the late Charles and Gertrude Duchin, he is survived by his wife, Naomi Levy Duchin; daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Marshall Cohen of West Windsor, Joyce and Gary Cohan of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Regina and Mark Kraus of Cheshire, Conn., and Julie and Fred Baniowski of Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

David N. Penrose
Active in Presbyterian Church
LAWRENCE David N. Penrose died Saturday at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 89.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He was a retired self-employed insurance broker for the Cigna Insurance Co.
He was a 1934 graduate of Trenton High School and attended Rutgers University. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
He was a member of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon, trustee and elder. He was a former treasurer for the New Brunswick Presbytery with over 20 years of service.
Son of the late Frank B. and Florence Nelson Penrose, brother of the late Harry B. Penrose, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Eastham Penrose; son David N. Penrose Jr.; daughters Virginia Staiano of Lebanon and Mary L. Penrose of Clarksburg, Md.; and granddaughters Mary E. Glibowski and Erin Rippin.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, 2688 Main St., Lawrence, officiated by the Rev. Jeffrey Vamos and Joan Semenuk, associate for pastoral ministry.
Burial will be private in Lawrenceville Cemetery.
