Constance H. Thornton, 80, of Ewing died Saturday, at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born in Trenton, she was the only child of William C. Hillman and Teresa Bowes Hillman. She resided in Trenton, Lawrence, and Pennington before moving to Ewing in October 2005. She was married to the late Harry W. Thornton for 46 years until his death in 1992.
Ms. Thornton worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. She began her career at NJ Bell as a telephone operator and retired as a supervisor in 1983.
An active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church for most of her adult life, she was a member of the Bethany Women’s Society that provided services and healing for the benefit of people within the Lutheran community as well as those beyond.
She is survived by a daughter Beverly Thornton and husband Richard Landau of Austin, Texas; a son Timothy Thornton and wife Barbara of Fort Mill, S.C.; a daughter Wendy and husband Edgar Dunham of Ewing; a son Scott Thornton and wife Jennifer, of Manchester, N.H.; six grandchildren Katherine Dunham, Kevin Thornton, Elizabeth Dunham, Bridget Thornton, Margaret Thornton and John Thornton.
Friends and family may visit from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1125 Parkside Ave., Trenton.
Interment will follow in Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Bethany Lutheran Church, The American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, or the Arthritis Foundation, Washington, D.C.
