Evelyn Salevsky

   HOLLIS, Maine — Evelyn P. Jones Salevsky, 73, a former resident of Lambertville and New Hope, and recently of Hollis, Maine, died Monday, April 17, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine.
   Born in Holicong, Pa., she was the daughter of Frances C. Wall Jones and George B. Jones.
   She was a graduate of New Hope-Solebury High School.
   She attended Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church and New Hope Methodist Church.
   She was the sister of the late Agnes Burn and Gladys Rushton and mother of the late Theresa and Lynn.
   She is survived by her husband of 44 years, George H. Salevsky Sr.; one son and a daughter-in-law, Max A. and Janine Salevsky of Buxton, Maine; a stepson, George H. Salevsky Jr. of Scarborough, Maine; a brother, George B. Jones of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Max, August, Natalia and Jaclyn.
   Funeral services were held Saturday at the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville. Burial followed at Thompson Memorial Cemetery.

James Mehl

   LITTLE EGG HARBOR — James D. Mehl, 70, died Saturday, April 22, at Atlantic City Medical Center, Mainland Division.
   He was born in Princeton and resided in Skillman for 35 years, moving here to Little Egg Harbor eight years ago.
   He was a member of the Princeton Elks.
   He was a carpenter for Princeton Local 781, Carpenters Union.
   He was the widower of Barbara, who died in 2005.
   Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Sorg of Hopewell, Carolyn Skiles of Coopersburg, Pa., and Diane Horner of Lambertville; seven grandchildren; a brother, Edward W. of Camdenton, Mo.; and a sister, Carol DiMeglio of Whiting.
   Services were held Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home, Tuckerton. Entombment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Tuckerton.
Helen McDaniel

   TRENTON — Helen Karaffa McDaniel, 90, died Friday, April 21, at Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
   Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident.
   She worked for many years at John A. Roebling & Sons in Trenton, later known as CF&I Steel Corporation, before retiring from the State of New Jersey-CETA.
   She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church.
   Mrs. McDaniel was the daughter of the late John and Mary Matyi Karaffa, sister of the late John, Michael, Nicholas, Peter and Anna Karaffa and Margaret Cook and widow of Charles McDaniel.
   She is survived by her brother, George Karaffa of Parlin; two sisters Dorothy Lizer of Columbus, Ohio, and Loretta Newman of Bordentown; her stepchildren and their spouses, Richard and Patty McDaniel of Lambertville, Gerri and Charles Mattey of Columbus and Arlene and Frank Barlow of Flemington; and many nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kutch Funeral Home, Trenton. An Office of Christian Burial was held at the church with Father Gregory J. Noga as celebrant. Burial followed in the church cemetery in Hamilton.

Edith Walter

   Pt. PLEASANT, Pa. — Edith K. Walter, formerly of Lambertville, died Saturday, April 22, at Pine Run Health Center in Doylestown, Pa.
   Born in Frenchtown, she lived most of her life in Pt. Pleasant.
   She was a former member of Frenchtown Methodist Church and attended Pt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
   She and her husband founded Walter’s Nursery in Frenchtown in 1930 and moved to Pt. Pleasant in 1932.
   She graduated from Lambertville High School in 1926 and Trenton Normal School in 1928.
   She was a teacher at the Oak Summit Elementary School in Baptistown and also taught kindergarten and first grade at Frenchtown Elementary School.
   At one time, she also worked at the Frenchtown Porcelain Company.
   She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Orion Lodge 56 in Frenchtown and a charter member of the Pt. Pleasant Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Pt. Pleasant Senior Citizens.
   She was the daughter of the late James and Sadie Pyatt Kuglar and widow of the late John W. Walter, who died in 1982.
   Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Dolores and Craig A. and Dorothy, all of Pt. Pleasant; a daughter, Joan Davis, and her companion, Harry Templeton of Pipersville, Pa.; a brother, James Kuglar of Frenchtown; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
   A daughter, Sharon L. Wiley, died in 1997.
   A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Pt Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial will be private.
   Arrangements are under the direction of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, Milford.
