Monmouth University sophomore Brad Brach was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week, for the first time in his career. The right-hander from Freehold Township High School, fanned 12 and pitched to an earned run average of 0.00 in his two outings. His first appearance was a scheduled two-inning stint against Rider where he struck out three in Monmouth’s 4-3 win. Brach hurled a complete-game shutout in his second outing, an 8-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s in a NEC game. In his seven innings, the Freehold Township grad struck out nine, didn’t walk a batter, and scattered five singles. The win improved Brach’s overall record for 2006 to 4-1 with a 2.44 ERA. Teams are hitting just .205 against him, and he had 50 K’s. He has thrown a NEC-leading three complete games. Monmouth, is 22-11 overall, but 11-0 in the NEC.
Manalapan’s Jermaine High, a freshman, is a member of the Monmouth University men’s 4×100 relay team that posted an IC4A qualifying mark at the Onesty/Abramson Invitational at the University of Virginia. High, along with teammates Chris Vuono, David Martell and Fabrice St. Elme ran a 42.31 and finished in sixth place.
Colts Neck High School grad David Gaines, a junior at Monmouth, moved up to seventh place on the school’s all-time 800-meter list, clocking 1:52.78 at the Virginia Invitational. He finished eighth in the race.
Gaines is going to the IC4A as a member of the Hawks’ 4×400 relay team that turned in a qualifying mark when they ran 3:17.53 and finished third in Charlottesville. Vuono, David Wiley and Jeff Elisca were the other sprinters making up the squad.
The Battle of Monmouth Freedom 92/93, which plays in the Mid Atlantic Premier Soccer League Premier South Division, is holding open tryouts for the 2006-07 season.
