Donald Schwertfeger

   HILLSBOROUGH — Donald Walter Schwertfeger died April 20 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He was 72.
   Born in Jersey City, he lived in Freehold and Bridgewater before moving to Hillsborough 16 years ago.
   Mr. Schwertfeger was an engineer efficiency expert for 10 years until 1964.
   He served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was extremely involved with the construction of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial.
   He was a former member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
   His daughter, Wendy Sue Ellis; his mother, Helen Esche; and two brothers, Frank and Billy are deceased.
   Surviving are a daughter, Robin Schwertfeger of North Providence, R.I.; and a brother, David of Newbern, N.C.
   A funeral service was held April 25 from Branchburg Funeral Home in Branchburg. Interment was in St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater.
