OCEAN TWP. – During the first week of April there were reports of several incidents of eggs being thrown at houses and cars in the Oakhurst section of the township.
According to police, there was no specific link between the incidents, but a break in the case came on April 9 when a police officer, investigating a motor vehicle crash on Orange Street, noticed broken egg shells in the vehicle as well as a bag containing whole eggs.
An investigation determined that prior to the crash there were several juvenile males in the vehicle throwing eggs at houses and cars.
Two male residents of the township have been taken into custody for the egg throwing incidents. Charges are pending against them for harassment. Several more juveniles are believed to be involved and charges are pending against them.
According to police, the motor vehicle accident being investigated involved a 17-year-old male Ocean Township resident who had struck a mailbox. The 17-year-old driver was issued a reckless driving summons, and charges of making a false police report are also pending.
A front-seat passenger in the vehicle received a minor head injury, and was treated at a local hospital and released.
