Joseph Colaneri, 66, died Sunday, April 23, at his home in Spotswood.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Monroe for 20 years before finally moving to Spotswood three years ago. He was a 1972 graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and worked as controller for Page Net in NYC for over 10 years. He recently was the senior accountant for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark for six years. He served in the Army in Japan during Vietnam, and then in the reserves until 1967. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4907 in Spotswood and the Lions Club of Monroe. Mr. Colaneri was a communicant of St. Thomas R.C. Church in Old Bridge.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Angela DiFrancesco; two sons, Joseph and his wife, Jacqueline, of Jackson, and Christopher and his wife, Patricia, of Hamilton; five sisters, Mary Ann Mastrolia and her husband, Nicholas J. Sr., of Rutherford, Sister Angela Marie Colaneri SC of Jersey City, Francine Colaneri and her husband, Chet, of Rutherford, Germaine Caparino and her husband, Rick, of Leonia, and Agnes Colaneri of Jersey City; three brothers, James of Jersey City, Dominic and his wife, Christina, of Nutley, and John and his wife, Ruth, of Lake Hiawatha; and three grandchildren, Joseph, Megan and Adam Colaneri.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 26, from M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas R.C. Church, Old Bridge. Interment followed in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle N.J. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Amytown, N.J. Visitation was Tuesday, April 25. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
