No increase in cost of beach fees this year

LONG BRANCH – An ordinance introduced by the City Council at the April 25 meeting calls for no increase in beach fees over last summer’s rates.

According to ordinance 14-06, the sale of seasonal beach passes in the city for the summer season, which extends from May 27 through Aug. 12, began on May 1 at the following rates:

Children under 12 years old, and adults ages 62 and over will be admitted free of charge. Those 62 years old and over must show identification;

Youths ages 13 though 17 will pay $30 and student ID is required. For ages 18 through 61 years old, the beach pass will cost $35.

The ordinance sets daily beach fees at the following rates:

Children under the age of 13, and adults 62 years old and older, with proper ID, will be admitted free; ages 13 through 17 will be admitted for $3 with student ID; and ages 18 through 61 will be charged $5.

Physically or mentally disabled individuals as well as U.S. Armed Services veterans of war who reside in Long Branch, are afforded free admission.

Seasonal beach passes can be purchased at the Long Branch Recreation Office at 3 Bay Ave., Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. On weekends beginning Memorial Day, badges will be available for sale at the beach office at North Bath Avenue on the boardwalk commencing on June 18, according to the ordinance.

Seasonal beach badges will be available on a daily basis at the beach office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

The public hearing for the ordinance is scheduled for the May 11 council meeting at city hall on Broadway 8 p.m.
