South Brunswick High School was evacuated on Thursday eight minutes after the school received a call that led officials to believe there may be a bomb threat, school officials said.
Students were out of the building for about 45 minutes, and police and school officials found no evidence of a bomb, school officials aid.
According to Principal Tim Matheney, a staff member at the Ridge Road building received a call at about 11:30 a.m. that led administrators to feel they had to respond to a bomb threat.
Mr. Matheney declined to discuss specifics of the call due to the pending investigation. Administrators evacuated the school’s 2,500 students in about eight minutes, he said.
Custodians and administrators searched the building but found nothing and a later search by police turned up the same results, Mr. Matheney said. Students returned to class about 45 minutes after the evacuation, he said.
School authorities and police are investigating the case by scouring the school’s phone records and talking to students, Mr. Matheney said. He said school administrators would try to expel the person who made the threat if he or she is a student. Police are interested in pressing charges against the caller, he said.
