Davis Javier Lopez, 18, of North Plainfield was indicted on a first-degree murder charge May 3 in connection with the fatal stabbing of Manville High School student Conrado A. Aguilar, 17, in January.
Mr. Lopez also was charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said the indictment alleges that Mr. Lopez purposely or knowingly murdered Conrado, a South Park Street resident.
Mr. Forrest said a New Jersey state regional medical examiner performed an autopsy on Jan. 4 and determined the cause of death was multiple knife stab wounds to the victim’s torso and face, and concluded that the manner of death was homicide.
The stabbing occurred during an altercation between the two teens on Duer Street in North Plainfield, Mr. Forrest said, where four teens, including Conrado, were in a car when a verbal argument began.
Mr. Lopez left the car while Conrado, the driver, circled the block, returning back to where Mr. Lopez was walking, Mr. Forrest said.
Conrado stepped out of the car and the two teens engaged in a physical argument, where Mr. Lopez then pulled out a knife and stabbed Conrado multiple times, the prosecutor said.
Mr. Forrest said that when North Plainfield police arrived, Conrado was among a crowd of bystanders, semiconscious while bleeding from the nose and mouth.
He was taken to nearby Muhlenberg Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Autopsy reports determined that Conrado had been stabbed seven times. The stab wounds were found on the center of his chest, lower back, rear left shoulder, left side of his underarm, the top of the right shoulder, under his left nostril, the right side of his chest and a laceration to the right ear, according to Mr. Forrest.
