The Long Branch Senior Center on Second Avenue has begun a new food program and will be serving homemade lunches every Tuesday and Thursday at noon for a cost of $4 per person. The Long Branch Concordance will host a forum on May 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the Brookdale Community College annex on Broadway to address housing concerns for families, children and adults in Monmouth County. The meeting is open to the public and will be organized by New Creations in Christ Inc. (NCIC). The forum is part of an ongoing initiative of the NCIC, a nonprofit organization that is a coalition of Christian congregations united to address affordable housing issues in the county. The Long Branch Historical Association and the city of Long Branch will sponsor the eighth annual “Art in the Park” show and sale on May 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at West End Park on the corner of Ocean and Brighton avenues. The juried art show will feature fine art, oil, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, photography and sculpture. The LADACIN Network, Eatontown, has received a $5,000 grant from The Community Foundation of Monmouth County for therapeutic toys and large computer monitors for students with visual impairments. The Schroth and Lehmann schools of LADACIN Network serve children ages 3-21 with developmental and multiple physical disabilities.

Shore Regional High School’s Student Council raised $2,000 for the Frank T. Caltabilota Scholarship Fund during the “Battle of the Bands” showcase and competition held on April 22 at the West Long Branch school. Knocked Conscious was the band that garnered the most votes from students who attended the daylong event, which featured many different musical acts. The scholarship is a memorial to Caltabilota, a Shore Regional graduate and West Long Branch resident who died in the Seton Hall University fire in January 2000. The funds are awarded to a graduating Shore Regional senior each year to help defray college expenses.

Clean Ocean Action (COA) will hold its Annual Family Luau for the Ocean on from 3-7 p.m. on May 21 at Ship Ahoy Beach Club in Sea Bright. Families from across the region are expected to gather to celebrate COA’s ocean protection efforts and kick off another summer on the Jersey Shore. The event will feature live music, tropical fare, a family Hawaiian shirt contest, raffle and silent auction. Proceeds benefit COA’s efforts to improve and protect the marine waters off the New Jersey and New York coasts through research, education, and citizen action.
